Ce qui les s\u00e9pare frappe plus \u00e0 premi\u00e8re vue que ce qui les unit. C\u2019est ce paradoxe qu\u2019on a voulu explorer dans cet ouvrage auquel ont collabor\u00e9 des sp\u00e9cialistes de chacun de ces auteurs, mais aussi du romantisme. Si Stendhal, Balzac, Dumas sont bien des romanciers romantiques, le sont-ils de la m\u00eame fa\u00e7on, pour les m\u00eames raisons ? Y a-t-il une coh\u00e9rence de la notion de \u201cr\u00e9cit romantique\u201d ? C\u2019est \u00e0 ces questions qu\u2019essaient de r\u00e9pondre les communications ici rassembl\u00e9es, en variant les modes d\u2019approche. La comparaison resserr\u00e9e, par souci d\u2019approfondissement, \u00e0 ces trois \u00e9crivains vient naturellement s\u2019enrichir de rapprochements avec d\u2019autres prosateurs romantiques : Mme de Sta\u00ebl, Nodier, Hugo, Sue, Musset, M\u00e9rim\u00e9e, et d\u2019autres. Au total ce sont les lin\u00e9aments d\u2019une th\u00e9orie du r\u00e9cit romantique qui s\u2019esquissent ; un r\u00e9cit enti\u00e8rement tendu vers la communication des savoirs, des \u00e9motions et des valeurs, qui a en m\u00eame temps une conscience aigu\u00eb des limites et des apories de la communication.
