Juxtapos\u00e9es, elles exprimeraient la double postulation du<br \/>\nromantisme fran\u00e7ais et son double prestige. Le pr\u00e9sent volume voudrait<br \/>\nr\u00e9interroger l\u2019attrait qu\u2019exercent, sur les auteurs du premier xixe<br \/>\nsi\u00e8cle, l\u2019\u00e9criture du Moi et l\u2019\u00e9criture de l\u2019Histoire. Doit-on se fier aux<br \/>\nslogans r\u00e9ducteurs de l\u2019histoire litt\u00e9raire? Mieux vaut secouer leur<br \/>\n\u00e9vidence trop br\u00e8ve, malmener les commodit\u00e9s du discours qui isolent les<br \/>\ncat\u00e9gories comme autant d\u2019espaces homog\u00e8nes et distincts: \u00e9gotisme,<br \/>\nhistoricisme\u2026 Peut-on croire un instant au caract\u00e8re contingent de la<br \/>\nrencontre des deux dans un m\u00eame pays et au m\u00eame moment? En postulant que<br \/>\nnon, on est conduit \u00e0 enqu\u00eater sur les liens qui s\u2019\u00e9tablissent entre les<br \/>\ndeux inspirations et les deux pratiques de l\u2019\u00e9criture de soi et de<br \/>\nl\u2019\u00e9criture de l\u2019histoire: trouvent-elles leur point de rencontre dans une<br \/>\n\u00e9criture de la m\u00e9moire? Individuelle ou collective, la m\u00e9moire \u00e9crite<br \/>\ninvente-elle un m\u00eame type de mise en r\u00e9cit? Quels liens penser entre<br \/>\n\u00e9criture de soi et p\u00e9riode historique troubl\u00e9e? Ces enjeux ont<br \/>\ncertainement une port\u00e9e g\u00e9n\u00e9rale; mais la p\u00e9riode post-r\u00e9volutionnaire,<br \/>\n1789-1848, leur donne une importance cruciale, tout occup\u00e9e qu\u2019elle est de<br \/>\ndire la place de chacun dans le monde.
